Jude Williams: From Stewarts Creek High to the Stage in Diary of a Wimpy Kid at Nashville Children's Theatre
Meet Jude Williams, a former Rutherford County Schools student and rising Nashville actor making waves in the theater world! Currently a student at Lipscomb University, Jude is pursuing a degree in Musical Theatre and has quickly made a name for himself both onstage and behind the scenes. Recently, he’s been cast in the exciting production of Diary of a Wimpy Kid at the Nashville Children’s Theatre, running from April 5th to May 18th.
A Stewarts Creek High School Alum Making His Mark
Jude’s journey to the stage began with his early performances at the Center for the Arts in Murfreesboro. However, it was at Stewarts Creek High School where he truly honed his skills, playing roles like Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jack in Into the Woods—experiences that were pivotal to his growth as a performer. He has since taken on memorable roles, including The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera (Inner Light Family Theater) and Borachio in Much Ado About Nothing (Lipscomb University).
The Importance of Stewarts Creek’s Fine Arts Program
Jude credits much of his success onstage to the mentorship and guidance he received the teachers at Stewarts Creek High School. "My fine arts teachers at Stewarts Creek were such important and influential figures in my life and they continue to be some of my biggest supporters today!" he reflects. "My theatre teachers, Donald Fann and Lindsey Mapes Duggin, and my choir teachers, Drs. Brian Russell and Susan Kelly, introduced me to more sophisticated approaches towards vocal performance and understanding characterization and movement in complex scenes and characters."
He credits these teachers with shaping his growth as both a performer and a person, saying, "There’s a reason why Stewarts Creek is well known for their fine arts program, and it is because of the passion and dedication passed down from instructor to student." For Jude, their continued support and mentorship have been invaluable as he navigates his journey in the arts.
Advice for Aspiring Artists
As someone who’s been through the highs and lows of pursuing a career in the arts, Jude has some valuable advice for students interested in following in his footsteps. "Go into every audition and class with the mindset that you can make it far and you will be successful!" he says. "It’s so easy to put yourself down and give up, but making the effort to grow and approaching each new project with a good attitude and headspace can do wonders for you."
For those just starting out, Jude stresses the importance of making connections and seeking guidance. "Make connections now! Don’t be afraid to talk to your fine arts teachers if you have any questions or if you want some tips. They have studied this art and business and they’re here to help!" He also encourages students to seize every opportunity, no matter how small. "Every opportunity in the arts is valuable, and you can learn so much from any position in a production!"
