Video Production at SHS
This week, we celebrate Tennessee’s Arts in Education Week, a time to recognize the profound impact that arts education has on students, schools, and communities. The arts are more than just an outlet for creativity—they foster critical thinking, teamwork, and self-expression, skills that serve students well beyond the classroom.
One shining example of arts education in action comes from one of our very own local high schools -- Smyrna High School -- where last year's students in the film program completed something truly remarkable: a feature-length film—written, produced, and directed entirely by students. The student-produced film, THE STRINGS ATTACHED, was more than just a school project. It’s a testament to the power of young voices and the importance of storytelling in shaping our world. Under the guidance of their dedicated teacher, Mr. Kyle Dietz, these students learned not only the technical skills of filmmaking but also the deeper lessons of perseverance, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
“This class is about more than making movies — it’s about teaching creativity, collaboration, and the confidence to turn ideas into reality. These are lessons that will serve our students far beyond the classroom.” - Mr. Dietz
These students took an idea and turned it into something tangible, navigating challenges, brainstorming solutions, and ultimately creating a finished film that showcases their talent and dedication. Their journey reflects what arts education is all about—empowering students to think critically, work together, and bring their visions to life.
Watch the Journey Unfold
